Posted in News http://blogs.phillyburbs.com/news/bct/category/news/> on November 18th, 2008 at 4:13 pm by BCT staff writer Dave Maccar | The Edgewater Park Township Sewerage Authority is considering raising its sewage rates for residents and businesses.
The proposed increase would raise flat fees for residents by $40 to $240 per year and would change the billing cycle to quarterly payments of $60 rather than the current semi-annual payments.. Billing dates would be in December, March, June and September.
For commercial accounts, a flat rate of $70 has been proposed with a cost of $4 per gallon over 12,000 gallons. This is an increase from the current annual minimum payment of $52.50 and a cost of $2.55 per gallon over 13,000 gallons..
The current rates have been in place since 1995.
The Authority will hold a public hearing on Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. at the Edgewater Park Township Municipal Building to discuss the proposed rate changes.

I guess the Sewer Authority Chairman Lied (check his comments in the Beverly Bee this summer) about how the Sewer Authorities Spending and Lack of Fiscal Control wasn't going to result in higher Sewer Taxes and the sewer rates were last raised in 2002 not 1995 as the article states. It is bad when the Authority lies to the BCT about when the rate was last raised. Why would you lie about this?
This is what happens when the party in  total control of the township, doesn't have to answer for their actions (Increased Sewer Taxs and Property Taxes) because the voters of Edgewater Park rewarded them with the election of five members of one party year after year. They just sent you, their thanks!
Stupid is as stupid does.

The Township Committee, Administrator and Sewer Authority Members are in Atlantic City on the Taxpayers dime having a good time at the League of Municipalities Convention.

So TRUE! They are in deed all wineing and dining on our taxpayers dollar. We rewarded them by re-electing them and now we're sending them and their families on a free vacation. Did you know that the Riverton township committee voted to not attend the convention in Atlantic City due to the fiscal problems plaguing the state and the tax payers right now. They felt it was more fiscally reasponsible to not attend the League of Municipalities Convention to cut back on expenses and save the taxpayers anywhere they can. Gee I wonder why our township committee doesn't feel the same way?

On another note the reporters post really got me fired up this morning. WHY CAN'T WE PUBLISH THIS FRONT PAGE IN THE PAPER????

The tax payers need to know they are being LIED to!!!!!!

EP Reporter, I hope you let Dave Maccar /BCT know about the Bee story and the misinformation about when the rates were really raised last. You should email him the Bee story too.

I think you people should stop crying and get over it. It is what it is and you can't change it.

TO ANONYMOUS 1:25 PM

Just remember, "Every dog has his day!" When you start to get too cocky like Bryant & Fumo, you usually wind up in jail. Nuff said!

What I'd like to know is if the Operator/Admin went to the convention and what town is actually paying his way!

I just want to make sure I understand, this is difference of about $0.11 per day . . . and the current rates have been in place for the last 13 years?

Anonymous Dave George,
As you well know, the rates were raised in 2002. It doesn't surprise me that you think a 20% increase is insignificant. Residents, the next thing this Sewer Authority will do is compute your sewer tax to your water usage. This will increase your sewer tax.

We had one of the lowest sewer taxes in the state until this bunch took over. You can attend the meeting, but it will not change anything because the spending done by this Sewer Board during the past year, requires the sewer tax to be increased because the Authority must have a balanced budget by law. They have used up any surplus that they had with the spending done this past year, that exceeded the 2007-2008 budget amounts. I have to believe that they will claim that they needed to do this because of emergency items, like personal changes, legal cost and the cost of having the Willingboro MUA as the Operator for the EPSA system.
If you go to the meeting, ask to see the 2007, 2008 and proposed 2009 budgets (you can request copies prior to the meeting) as well as the Auditor's 2007, 2008 Audit Report. They should be very enlightening.

Well said Anonymous 11/20, The spending is out of control. Willingboro MUA is laughing all the way to the bank. E.P.'s sewer authority along with the township adminstrator are the joke of the day in Willingboro. And from what I hear our adminstrator is a joke all over the state!

It looks like we're paying for Willingboro's failed sewer pipe on Beverly Rancocas Road last summer. Remember how it was closed for months? You will next sewer bill. WTG Committee

From what I hear the previous Sewer Administrator budgeted a deficit the past few years that helped put the free spenders deeper in the hole~

Anonymous 9:49PM 11/20,
You must have been told the comment you published by members of the Sewer Authority. The truth is, it is the Sewer Authority Board Members make up the budget with input from the Authority Auditor and Engineer along with the Administrator. You must be a Sewer Board member, so you would be aware that your Auditor was recommending that the Authority should consider raising the sewer tax due to the increased cost of operations, and fees from the Willingboro MUA. Don't try and blame the past Administrator for your poor job in controlling the cost of operating the Authority, due to your mismanagement and decisions.

No matter if the rates go up last year or this year we are the ones getting screwed! Let's all go to the meeting and see where the money is going and why?

I believe it was stated in the past that the "professional" fees were too high and the increase was needed to keep up with the professionals fees.

So maybe the most logical thing to do would be to "cut" costs like the rest of the REAL WORLD these days. Put the office back in the municipal building...part-time hours...cut the "operator/administrator" position....and get rid of the "hot air"!
