Are the day's numbered for the Beverly-Edgewater Park Emergency Squad?

Is the end near for the Beverly-Edgewater Park Emergency Squad?

The Edgewater ParkTownship Committee has published a Request For Proposals due 3/13/12, 10 am for;
"BASIC LIFE SUPPORT EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES" REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS # EPTwp No. 2012-2.

Can the Beverly-Edgewater Park Emergency Squad survive without the financial support it now receives from Edgewater Park?
If you check with the County 911 Central, the majority of the Squads calls are from Edgewater Park.

How can the Emergency Squad survive only being supported by Beverly City?

The answer is that it can't.

Now ask yourself why is the Edgewater Park Township Committee looking for someone else to provide the town with BASIC LIFE SUPPORT and EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES ?

Is this payback for a political friend who got caned when the was undergoing an internal investigation late last year? This political friend was the only person not rehired after the review was completed and the Squad started back in operations.

So what is the reason Edgewater Park Committee?

The Beverly-Edgewater Park Squad has been a important part of this community and has provided excellent service to the residences of Beverly and Edgewater Park. It's reputation only suffered during the tenure of the politically connected former head of the squad who was the only paid employee not rehired after the internal review was conducted.

If you care about the Squad and want to see who the bidders are, attend the public bid opening to be held at the Municipal Building, Tuesday March 13th at 10 AM. It is open to the public and the bid documents must be made available for the public to see.

It will be real interesting to see if the "politically connected" ex-paid member is bidding or has someone fronting for him.

Some interesting background, check the amount of money that Edgewater Park contributed to the squad before the "politically connected" ex-employee started working as head of the squad and how much was contributed after he took over running the squad. This information is available from the Township CFO or Township Clerk.

Lets see what happens now and in the future with Edgewater Park Township Budget Squad contribution.

I wonder who wrote the bid specifications, it requires twice as much insurance as any squad other than a for profit hospital service carries. Isn't it against the law to rig the bidding process so only Lourdes will get it? What was arranged in advance?

Well, after leaving the township meeting tonight it seemed pretty evident that the committee has something to hide from their back room on this one. Mr. Pullion couldn't hide the increase in blood pressure as he buried his face several times in his hands reacting to public comments. Mr. Booker responded to someone question with incomprehensible mumbling and not until his third repetition trying to spit it out did we finally hear his response which was quickly challenged by a squad member tells him he was incorrect. Lastly Mrs. Belgarde commented that they are looking for new Basic Life Support services because the squad left them in a lurch.
When asked to explain her comment she clumsily and not very lawyerly recanted her choice of the word "lurch" as perhaps not the best choice. It was also brought out that that there was no lack of service nor any missed squad calls during its transition after firing its chief/administrator. So if it's reorganized and doing better than ever then why is the committee
soliciting proposals for private contractor service. Something smells rotten in Denmark or better said Edgewater Park. Must be partisan decision making to benefit one of their own while seeking retribution against volunteers who tried to fix something broken that involved their former crony. Boy does it stink, Oh and the irony of the evening!; they all sat through an ethics class for elected officials. Guess they should have had the class sooner before their back room deal. Hopefully they got the message tonight that the residents are not stupid and we pretty much know what the "deal" is and for who!!!

I can't beleive the Edgewater Park Committee would take away from the residences, a squad that has served our town with one of the best EMT units in the county with a new unknown emergency squad and if Jim Daly is involved with this new squad, well then it is time to expose why Jim was not rehired by the Beverly-Edgewater Park Squad!

I too attended the meeting and sat for the class of ethics what a joke! Let's just say when all is said and done if Lourdes is in place you will then know there was a back door deal! Oh and FYI ewpt. If you talk to JIM DALY why don't you Tell him to shut up and stop leaking all of your information !!! Chief 14!!!! Yes I said it your big mouth friend is the talk of the town let me just say he is an ass, but you are what you walk with !!!!!

We do not want to be like Gloucester!!!
gloucestercitynews.net
Lourdes Health System’s three year contract with the City of Gloucester City to provide basic life ambulance service to residents will start Friday, April 1. The controversial measure was approved at the February council meeting by a 4-1 vote. The lone nay vote came from Councilwoman Kellie Ferry.
The City laid off 8 of the 31 member fire department in December.
No explanation has been given to the public by city officials on why the ambulance service was put out for bid.  Residents have been left to wonder what were the reasons for the move especially since the ambulance service has been handled efficiently for decades by paid firemen/EMT’s and volunteer firemen. An if it was costing taxpayers money why would a private concern be interested in operating an ambulance that was losing money?
To put those questions to rest CNB has reached out to City Administrator Jack Lipsett to provide the documents that were analyze to show how a private ambulance service will save taxpayers money.
In the meantime Carol Lynn Daly, Director, Marketing and Media Relations for Lourdes answered some questions about what residents can expect from the new ambulance service along with providing some other information.
Asked how Lourdes got involved with Gloucester City, Daly said, “Earlier this year, Gloucester city officials sent out a “request for proposal” to local hospitals and ambulance providers to offer pre-hospital ambulance transport to the residents of Gloucester City.   Lourdes responded to the request for proposal out of a commitment to serving the South Jersey community.  Lourdes was selected to be the city’s EMS provider, effective April 1.”
According to Daly Lourdes offered right of consideration first to the EMS workers who were laid off, “however, they were not responsive to Lourdes offer.”
She went on to say, “Hospitals that provide EMS services in local communities are becoming increasingly more common. Lourdes has answered the need in Pemberton Township and the system is working well.  Lourdes recognizes that by providing EMS service, the hospital is meeting a community need, keeping costs to the city budget low, and ultimately providing a continuum of care for patients.”
“  Quality care and patient safety are of the utmost importance at Lourdes and providing EMS services in Gloucester city falls in line with our mission.”

Daly said the Lourdes Gloucester City EMS ambulance will be stationed at a Gloucester City firehouse as such “there will be no increase in response time.”
She said all EMS workers are state-licensed EMTs.
As for billing patients, “ Lourdes will bill for ambulance service just as Gloucester City bills currently.”...(note: presently GCFD uses hard and soft billing system, meaning the patient's health insurance is billed if no insurance paper work is provided for assistance).
When asked if the new ambulance will be any different from the city ambulance that Gloucester residents had for years she said, “Lourdes is working to make the transition as seamless as possible. Our aim is to improve access for City residents.”
Besides Gloucester City Lourdes is providing ambulance service to Pemberton Township. They took over in Pemberton on October 1, 2010.
Daly said patients can choose the hospital they want to be taken to, they wont be limited to just Lourdes. She also said Lourdes ambulance will provide 24 hour coverage.
If Lourdes EMT's are out on a call who will back up the ambulance if another call is receive?
“Back up will be other Lourdes EMTs with backup from fire department and mutual aid if necessary. This arrangement will be as it is right now,” said Daly.
If residents have a question about billing or service who do they call?
“Service questions would be addressed to EMS Squad manager and billing questions would be the same company that currently serves the City.”

Apparantly there is going to be a public meeting on the 20th of march at 7:00 pm to allow the public in to voice their opinion. I say we keep our squads people and not let a great tradition fade due to others political agenda!

That certain individual said that he will be working out of the Emergency Room at Lourdes ER and will be the EMS Chief for Edgewater Park! He said that at the neighborhood watch meeting this past week or so. If this is a open proposal, then why are they interviewing for EMT's for Edgewater Park at Lourdes Hospital? You sure this isn't back door? Our EMT's are just fine and our emergency squad is perfect for our town!

lets call a spade a spade! Jim Daly! Is blabbing his mouth all over the town as well as the hospital. I was in the emergency room just 2 weeks ago and my father an I heard him telling an Indian female doctor that Lourdes was taking over. We just thought that is was just Jim Daly Bull Shit!I have family in both towns and I really have no time for any political bull shit the truth be told your all a bunch of ass holes ! How ever I do agree by anonymous council you have just made a mess out of this town and if you have any chance of coming out of this and maintaining a position on that bench you better fix this mess!

we will all have the answer when they announce Lourdes as there new EMS provider! then heads will roll...

It is obvious that some on Township Committee have their eyes on bigger and better offices. Some have already received their chance. Anyone with any sense will tell you that the way to success as a Democrat in Burlington County is to appease the Camden County Democrats. I suspect this is larager than Jim Daly. We have an Assemnlyman/Physician who is active with the CamCo Dems and Cooper Hospital. Where does he stand on this? Probably where the Boss tells him to!

You are getting what you voted for, how do you like the change???

Anonymous said...

So does anybody know who the bidders were today? If so who was the low bid?

Anonymous said...

From what I heard the only bidders are Lourdes.... like we expected. And the local squad. Hope it all works out for the best

I don't usually agree with the politicians but they are correct on what they are doing here. The squad is a BUSINESS, a non-profit, but still a BUSINESS. This is no longer a MOM AND POP volunteer organization as in the past. The Twp. gives alot of money and other assistance to the squad with no contract as is required when dealing with other businesses.
I hope the squad continues as our provider, but if they don't submit a bid, we all lose.

Guess I got the wrong information. I heard there were a couple of bids. One being our LOCAL EMS Squad. I sure hope it stays our LOCAL EMS Squad.

From what I recall, Lourdes Medical Center bidded for $0.00 from the township, WITH fuel payments and priveledges. The local squad bid out for $0.00 and $0.00 in fuel payments or priveledges. There is a meeting tomorrow night where there is a section open for public comment, the committee will be deciding, not the public... I think we should keep our local services! I have been a resident here for over 60 years and have always gotten speedy service. "Mom and Pop" dont need to volunteer anymore either, they are a great, young active group of kids with a lot of moxy, who will continue to support our communities when we need them! Support them, tell them how you feel!

Well the squad lost its legal appeal so it stand by a court that all was on the up and up and Lourdes will indeed stay as the EMS provider for EWP. I would like to make comment regarding all the banter that the squad is better then ever, the "Volunteer" squad has been covering it shifts with paid staff more then volunteer staff placing the squad in a situation of serious financial constraints bordering not being able to even cover their monthly bills, and not to mention majority of the 2nd calls are going unanswered so don't by into the new leadership has changed the squad because if so, its become worse. Before the "shut down" paid staff covered day shift 6a-6p and now up till everyone being laid off, has been covering all or part of the night 5-6 nights a week due to the lack of volunteers. Now that the squad is 100 percent volunteer their schedule is wide open with no coverage and rest assured it will be the Endeavor squad once again covering their calls... So this GREAT SQUAD... HAS FALLEN EVEN WITH THE NEW LEADERSHIP
